Gum Therapy
Our Ottawa dentist offers surgical and non-surgical gum therapy for patients who may be experiencing gum disease.
What is gum disease?
Gum disease is the leading cause of tooth loss in Canadian adults. However, many instances of gum disease are actually preventable. Also known as periodontal disease, gum disease can be a result of bacterial infection in your gums. It can also worsen and affect the gum tissue surrounding your teeth.
What are symptoms of gum disease?
While gum disease might not show any symptoms in early stages, there might be other symptoms including:
- bleeding gums
- receding gums
- sore gums
- swollen gums
- purple-red gums
How do we help your gum disease?
We use soft tissue management to help you prevent issues and maintain oral health. During your hygiene appointment your dental hygienist checks for signs of gum disease. Your dentist will then consult with you to develop a personalized treatment plan based on your current status.
We also offer surgical gum therapy for patients with more extensive periodontal disease.
We recommend frequent hygiene appointments, deep cleaning, and specialized home care routines, as treatment for gum disease.
