Sedation Options
Our Ottawa dentist offers oral sedation and nitrous oxide in the hope that it may help patients who are experiencing anxiety about their dental visit.
Why are people anxious about the dentist?
If you are afraid of dentists, you're not alone. People who go regularly to the dentist can still feel anxious about their upcoming dental visits. Fear can be one of the biggest reasons people avoid dentists.
If you experience anxiety about going to the dentist or have an extensive appointment coming up, your dentist may recommend conscious sedation. Sedation can often help you relax during your appointment, easing the anxiety associated with your dental procedure.
Nitrous Oxide
What is nitrous oxide?
Also known as “laughing gas”, you may feel calmer after a few breaths of nitrous oxide.
Who is a candidate for nitrous oxide?
Nitrous oxide is an option for patients who feel apprehensive about their dental appointment.
Do I need to arrange for transportation home?
Patients are safe to drive themselves home after this sedation option is administered since the effects of the gas are typically gone after a few breaths of fresh air.
Oral Sedation
What is oral sedation?
Oral medication can be administered in the form of liquid or pills.
When is this sedation administered?
Oral sedatives can be taken the night before to help you sleep, and taken one hour before your appointment to help reduce anxiety during treatment.
Can I drive home after my appointment?
We ask that you arrange a ride for yourself when you have oral sedation.
